Allen key, also known as a hex key or Allen wrench, is a small, handheld tool used to tighten or loosen screws or bolts that have a hexagonal socket or recess in the head. The tool is named after its inventor, the American machinist William G. Allen.
The Allen key consists of a short, L-shaped metal rod with a hexagonal cross-section. The tool is inserted into the socket or recess in the bolt head and rotated to tighten or loosen the bolt.
